Orthodontic Studies report 70 percent of the population could benefit from having their teeth and jaws realigned with orthodontic treatment. In many cases, a child’s need for orthodontic treatment arises out of his or her inheriting teeth from one parent that do not fit properly into his or her jaws inherited from the other parent. As a result, kids jaws were either too small to accommodate large teeth, or they were too large for the smaller teeth causing spaces or gaps between the two front teeth. These genetic traits where then passed down from generation to generation.
Over the centuries, these inconsistencies produced the need for orthodontic treatment and are more prevalent today than ever, especially in the United States.ย The US is the leader of the free world and a melting pot for many different nationalities mixing genetic backgrounds from countries throughout the world.
The American Association of Orthodontics recommends that all children be seen by the age of 7 for an orthodontic evaluation. Many adults, whose families couldnโt afford treatment as a child, or they didnโt want to wear braces years ago, are now considering straightening their teeth.
