Why so many kids need an orthodontist today in Medford and Port Jefferson NY on Long Islandโ€ฆ

At Coolsmiles, some parents ask usโ€ฆ โ€œWhy do you see so many kids and adults wearing braces today?โ€

Orthodontic Studies report 70 percent of the population could benefit from having their teeth and jaws realigned with orthodontic treatment. The fact is our ancient ancestors had perfect teeth and bites, as evidenced by fossil records. Then, about 10,000 years ago, malocclusions (bad bites) seem to have become more prevalent. Why? Human growth patterns saw teeth and jaws fail to accommodate teeth and jaw development as different ethnic and genetic backgrounds began to live together and populate.

In many cases, a child’s need for orthodontic treatment arises out of his or her inheriting teeth from one parent that do not fit properly into his or her jaws inherited from the other parent. As a result, kids jaws were either too small to accommodate large teeth, or they were too large for the smaller teeth causing spaces or gaps between the two front teeth. These genetic traits where then passed down from generation to generation.

Over the centuries, these inconsistencies produced the need for orthodontic treatment and are more prevalent today than ever, especially in the United States.ย  The US is the leader of the free world and a melting pot for many different nationalities mixing genetic backgrounds from countries throughout the world.

The American Association of Orthodontics recommends that all children be seen by the age of 7 for an orthodontic evaluation. Many adults, whose families couldnโ€™t afford treatment as a child, or they didnโ€™t want to wear braces years ago, are now considering straightening their teeth.

When you visit Dr Leon Klempner or Dr David Amram, they will inform you whether you or your child have an orthodontic problem, and if so, what it is; best treatment recommendations available to correct the individual problem; how long treatment will take; and one of our staff will discuss payment options to work within your budget.

Feel free to contact our office for a free consultation.ย  At Coolsmiles, we look forward to helping you create the smile you want and deserve for yourself or your child.
